A failure to communicate!!!
Steve B. simply isn't listening to his customers. Look, security patches are a fact of life regardless of your OS or the applications that run on them. However, how those are released and delivered is the true separating factor between the competitors.

Microsoft seems hell bent on adding everything/anything they can to the "security" patches. And that includes constant "updates" to the products EULA. Want me to "patch"? Here's a few clues for you Steve.

I want the patches separated. *I* am a big boy and can decide for myself if *I* need/want a particular patch. (As in, this is a sever and I could care less about an update to DirectX or Media Player.)

No, I do NOT want to agree to a new EULA so you can fix YOUR BROKEN PRODUCT. When I take my car in for warranty work we DO NOT re-write the damn contract. When it comes to a SECURITY patch, I never want to see the EULA! You are fixing a flaw in the product you sold me, not doing me a favor where you get to change the rules.

STOP with the Windows update already! Simply make the patches available for download. Trust me, I'm a big boy and know how to launch an executable file. This may come as a huge surprise but not every PC has a broadband connection.

And of course there is the "well duh" factor. The PC isn't able to connect to the mothership so it can't do a download to allow it to connect to the mothership. (Do you see the "well duh" part of this?) Or heaven forbid you are using a Windows XP machine to download needed patches for a WinNT machine. You can't do it! (Update see's the WinXP box and that's all you can get to.)

Steve B., the bottom line here is you are listening to your marketing speak people instead of your customers. I can think of no faster way to make them ex customers...
