Then why does it have to be activated by a MS service pack?

I can see all kinds of problems with this. MS is going to write to the chip to activate something on it. What else is going to be geting activated here? How meny times does MS get to activate something? What commands are actualy being sent to the chip?

Next since its a MS service pack that does this what if you want to install another OS on a computer that has had this activated? Can it be turned back off? Is MS going to start trying to force all the venders to activate this befor they ship a computer?

Is MS addmiting that their OS is so messed up that the only fix is some kind of hardware?
