``.. The result of an attack could be serious.''

I see. Another serious vulnerability in MS s/w.

``"An attacker could install programs; view, change or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights," Microsoft warned in a security bulletin for the patch last week. ''

It is so much harder alsmost impossinle, to install s/w remotely without the user's knowledge or intervention. Why is it so hasrd for MS to make this 'funcionality' unavailable?

``The company rated the vulnerability "important," which falls second to "critical" in its rating scale.''

So I guess this must be a recent flaw ...

``A Microsoft representative said the company is aware of the exploit code but is unaware of active attacks that have utilized it. Microsoft is monitoring the situation and is urging customers to apply its patch, the representative said. The company also directed people to report any attacks to Microsoft and the FBI.''

That's right! this is what FBI needs right now. To have to handle a couple million messags from compromised OE... Next step: go talk to UN.

``The vulnerability has been found in several versions of Outlook Express, including releases 5.5 and 6.0 for Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003 machines, according to Microsoft.''

Good to know that NO version is left behind.

But the winner is :

``People don't have to launch the Outlook Express program, however, in order to fall victim to an attack. ''

The STANDARD MS CTAPPMANSHIP! Their s/w has been defective and pre-BETA and this latest feature does not even require the flawed app to LAUNCH to take effect!!!!!

How do they do this? A defective program causing serious troubles EVEN WITHOUT RUNNING!

They must be entered in the Guiness Book of records under
``Bad s/w that intelligently defends against correction''

What a joke of a company: where did they design and develope their systems? When they take rides in the Disneyland?
