You're Right On Target
Because of my disability, I am forced to depend on the Internet for a large part of my needs. In all the years of use, I've had only one incident--and it happened because of the worm (can't remember its name) that was secretly attaching itself to vendors' websites unbeknownst to them and was harvesting info from there. However, I found it quickly, removed it, got a new card etc. before it was able to be used. And it was my fault because back then I didn't know or install the security protections available to us. That's how I came to be aware of what is needed on a PC to protect and secure it.

Most Internet merchants go to great lengths to provide a secure means of transmitting delicate information. Headlines like this article make big news, but your credit info can also be stolen in a number of different ways, just by salespeople who handle your card. And when you send a check, even to pay a utility bill, you are giving a number of people a look at your account number and bank routing number as well.

There is no 100% secure system as long as humans are part of it somewhere along the way. Having little choice in method of shopping, I am forced to shop in this manner. It's usually some nitwit as described in the post that's responsible for most of the trouble.
