Or it could be people ditching credit cards. I know I have. Went with a HE Line of credit at prime instead of 18.5% on the credit card. I still kept a card for online purchases though with a $500 limit.

Funny thing though, I really confused the credit card people when I asked to have $500 limit. They couldn't understand that if my card is stolen then only a max of $500 fraud could occur.
