WTF is the big deal anyhow...?
Seriously.. No personal attack coming.. I'm trying to understand your viewpoint here...

Here we have a the biggest software vendor in the world, telling people who want to send email to "Hotmail"...

"If you want to send email to hotmail, you must have a sender ID tag"

Do you think they'd be able to do this if they weren't big? No small company in their right mind would try and push their proprietary standards unto others in the way MS is leveraging the fact it IS the biggest software vendor in the world.

NOW.. If MS has an option where.. Myself as a hotmail user can turn off that "ability" to scan for the Sender ID..

Then I'd consider it... Un-monopolistic.

In this case they would not be FORCING me to their standard in order to use their "software".

Elementary really...

1.) Hotmail gives you a week before dumping any given e-mail that's wound up in your junk folder. Periodic checks through the junk folder should help keep misrouted e-mail not wind up in the trash.

2.) We've been hearing about what an evil thing spam is for years now. And precious little has actually been done about actually eliminating it. Now, finally, someone has decided to make a move - however ill conceived or worthless it may seem - and now some people are having a hissy fit over it. Why? Because it's Microsoft and not someone else who's insisting on making a change.

Sometimes you need the 900 LB. gorilla to jump on a few backs to get things to change. When no one seems to have any better ideas or solutions, people tend to sit and stew instead of at least trying a solution - good, bad or indifferent. You have to have LEADERSHIP in order to get things to change. Otherwise, nothing will happen except for the usual "b*tchfest" of complaints about how badly spam is destroying the internet and clogging up everyone's inbox.

3.) As it's been oft mentioned here... Microsoft does NOT have a monopoly on e-mail. Hotmail is but ONE of MANY free/cheap e-mail services available. If you don't like it, there's Yahoo, G-mail, etc.., et al, ad nauseum. NO one is forcing you to use it. Yes, it's a pain to have to notify everyone of your new e-mail address. Such is life if you want to be free of those "evil monopoleers at Microsoft."
