I don't know all the technical ins-and-outs...
>>> But how is it through partnering that, what goes onto your ISP's mail server, is also linked to Hotmail's mail server? >>>

All I know is the ISP partnered with MS last year (Fall'04?) to tie in with MSN; the various email server settings have changed as of June 1/05 (eg, from pop/smtp.xxxx to pop/smtphm.xxxx... which could be it's own server naming scheme (hm=hotmail)... or not) and I needed to sign up for a Passport account (new user name, password, etc) to receive (or keep active and continue to access) my ISP provided email account.

>>> That doesn't make any sense. >>>

Tell me about it happy Why do some individuals/corporations make the decisions they do???

>>> Why would a global ISP make their mail go through hotmail pop3 rather than through their own servers? >>>

Questions from my original post...
More exposure/PR?
Ride MS's...
coattails
success
reputation (such that it is)?
Offload/outsource email services, tech responsibilities and hassles?
(Other than a new flood of help support requests inherent in any MS technology, unless that is also a "hidden" outsourced service. Maybe Hotmail people will also be answering email inquires for the ISP?))

Or...
plain stupidity!?

Your guess is as good as mine.
