Yes, but..
New MS OS'es are so overloaded with junk and needless features that they cripple slower (older) machines... indeed, Longhorn to today's machines is what Windows XP was to Pentium 3/1.0GHz boxes. and that's with the new useless features turned off.

You're right on Mac, with one additition: Once they ditched their own ground-up code for FreeBSD that they promptly modified, they've lost credibility. Also made it easier for them to port what they've done back to the Intel microcosm. Nevermind the price argument, of which Apple should be ashamed about this time.

Fedora exists for Macs (FreeBSD likely does too), so any user with half a brain will see the HUGE cost savings in using Linux/FreeBSD on a PC instead of "OS Xsd" that Dell will be more than happy to sell (assuming Apple lets them, and I doubt it). Effectively the same thing, all things considered.

Best of all, Adobe has slowly been ditching Mac support for their applications. They will either be Windows-centric (good luck trying to use it in a thin client environment in the corporate world; they're moving toward that direction) or will HAVE to start selling for Linux; but with Linux equivalents starting to approach the power of Adobe's grossly overpriced offerings, they'll be gone in a few years too.
