Because Linux Boxes Are ...

1. Obscure (altho Linux folks think that's not the reason.)
2. Run by sophisticated users (altho Linux folks are not as sophisticated as they think ... just ignorant in other areas.)
3. Not used as the root (administrative) account (the BIGGEST flaw and giggest convenience of Microsoft practice) because root account is partially disabled.

Case in point: try to install FireFox 1.0.4 on Ubuntu/Kubuntu. FireFox 1.0.2 in distro. Kubuntu won't upgrade to latest version from Kubuntu source. Uninstall 1.0.2 from distribution. Go to getfirefox, download Linux installer for 1.0.4. Install is X-based (why on Linux box?) Root typically not allowed to run X-display. So if you try to install in /usr/lib, user is not privileged. Use chmod to allow user to access /usr folder? Fool around, get it to work. Change back folder privileges. Try to create link in KDE. Can't put in "Internet" applications folder, it's apparently privileged too.
