VMS. I think it is one of the most secure servers in the world.

The point most zealots miss is that any OS connected to a public network can be hacked. For those of us old enough to remember hacking was around a long time before MS and Windows and yes contrary to the Open Source party line, breaches did occur.

However with that being said MS in the recent past has done more patching than most manufacturers. If the MS product is patched it stands pretty well as long as you are current with patches and follow security procedures.

The problem too is not just with the OS. For example in the latest version of Veritas Backup Exec, 10.0, there is a huge gaping whole in their daemon that lets an attacker take full control of a box, no matter what the operating system. By far the most widely used software in backup would let a network of windows servers, unix servers or whatever flavor you use be totally open. The point here being that the uneducated focus solely on the OS when in actuality third party software, including payment processing software or backup, could in fact be the culprit. No one here stopped to smell the roses and bother to even think about the possibility it was not the OS at all. That more so than OS is the limited thinking that causes systems to be compromised.
