I've been a programmer for a pretty big bank for a few years. I do know that the data wasn't sitting on a Windows server. No way you run your daily batches on Windows. It'just not done for that kind of volume. It was Oracle running on HPUX. They offer APIs to integrate web payment processing those are most likely .net based. Also, Sun used to have an annoucement of eCardSmart(CardSystems in-house software) built with Java. I would think all platforms got cracked and the code writer had to know some inside tech to do it too. I hardly think it was an OS or DB flaw. It was most likely an inside job or a hole within eCardSmart.
