Mozilla 1.5 was the gravestone of Netscape
In my opinion, Netscape died with the release of Mozilla 1.5. Every advantage that Nescape had over IE was taken further by Mozilla, and though NS would eventually catch up, I would simply stay with Mozilla and not bother switching back. When Firefox came out, it became clear that NS was a dinosaur compared to it just as IE was a dinosaur compared to NS. It's true that NS didn't have the same level of hype Firefox had because of the open source fanclub, but it also never made up the room for improvement, and as a result fell to the sidelines.
