Readers, beware, ridiculous FUD ahead
Wow! I've seen ZDNet report other people's FUD, but I've never actually read a ZDNet article that was itself FUD until now.

This article implies that if you use BitTorrent, you are somehow more susceptible to spyware than if you use some other way of downloading. That's what I would call full-blown malarkey (or for you critically thinking folks, they are implying something that simply isn't true).

I suspect that the amount of malicious software contained in http downloads far outweigh that of BitTorrent. And then you have ftp, and let's not forget those wonderful Outlook email worms.

Now, it is of no fault at all of the software/protocol that is used to retrieve a file. NOo even Outlook can be blamed for that, though it is apparently full of security holes. It is the fault of the person(s) who created the malicious software and distributed it. You could even put a little responsibility on the user for not protecting his computer with anti-malware. But you cannot expect the file transfer protocol folks to build in malware protection. That isn't their job. Get McAfee or Norton, for goodness' sake.

Just to put a final word on this foolishness, think of it in these terms... If a man walks into a bank where there is a robbery in progress, and he gets shot, who is at fault, the bank, or the bank robber? If you said "the bank," please seek immediate critical thinking therapy.
