All the laws they need already exist. If they have someone under surveillance and can prove it to a judge, then do so. Anything else would be too costly. Computers are communication tools inside our homes and our businesses. Why should this type of communication be afforded less legal status than other communication methods?

The amount of data collected for such a request would also be hundreds or thousands of times greater that just collecting a 10 digit #. This would require all ISPs to invest in many additional servers just to store electronic logs that only .00000000000001% or less would have any actual legal value.

The extreme possibility of privacy abuse must also be considered. Just because we might find a couple more terrorist this way, we're also more likely to come accross government abuse. Perhaps an ISP-log-Gate, where the presidential party in office starts snooping the emails and traffic of the opposition. Then our country can spend millions on that.

SOX is bad enough and should be revamped. We don't need this at all.
