Like cattle to the slaughter
Why should the rest of the world have to pay for American officials' incompetence? 9/11 was completely preventable (pretending or assuming that it was an attack from outside, from Islamic terrorists) in more ways than one, and now everyone else but those that failed to do their jobs will foot the bill with their freedom sacrificed (or thrown in the toilet, to be more exact).
The US wants to fingerprint and eye scan innocent tourists and yet promotes the head of NORAD, even though his incompetence led to the deaths of thousands of people. Well, perhaps he was promoted because he really wasn't in charge that day. Strangely enough, the authority to shoot down planes was given solely to the defense secretary (Rumsfeld! tada!). So if Rumsfeld did not give orders to shoot down any planes, there was nothing any field commanders could do even if they wanted to. Of course Rumsfeld was having a meeting with another official (and this was after both planes hit the trade towers) in the Pentagon, even though by then everyone knew there were still errant aircraft flying around and one plane was headed for Washington. How calm and reassured Rummy was, while the rest of us had no idea what was unfolding (exactly the way Bush and his secret service security detail were totally relaxed and confident that the president wasn't in any danger in the Florida school).
Don't fret though, my good sheep. Soon enough the pain and burden of freedom will be whisked away from you, and you can spend time immemorial circling your sorry cages.
