RE: Some disturbing notions
I,

Agree with your analysis.

I'd also like to offer an example of just exactly how out of touch some of these CEOs are with reality.

In the Yahoo link you provided Craig Barrett of Intel states:

"Barrett complained about federal agriculture subsidies he said were worth tens of billions of dollars while government investment in physical sciences was a relatively low $5 billion. "I can't understand why we continue to pour resources into the industries of the 19th century," Barrett said."

Perhaps Mr. Barrett would like to explain how America will feed it's 300 million people with the excesses obviously produced by India, China, etc.

Maybe he would get the point if one day his housekeeper/maid/butler came home and said: "There is no food at the store because of a trade dispute with India, etc."

To even imply that the US government should spend a dime more investing in the sciences when Intel would simply use the gains to further someone in India is unfathomable (is that a word) to me.

I have nothing against giving work to people who cost less, even those in India.

But, I do have a serious problem with spending my tax dollars on universities, etc. that seem to be full of foreign born students.

I have a sister-in-law with four years programming experience who has a very good CS degree from an extremely well respected university who cannot find a job here in Silicon Valley. At this point she would gladly accept a lower wage just to have a job.

It isn't going to happen, Intel, Cisco, Oracle, you name it, basically will not even speak to her.

The pure economics of it all basically says that if you are in the technology industry in the US you better start preparing to find another profession.

But, there is no reason we need to support Ms. Fiorina's, or Mr. Barrett's notions of what the US can do to better their firms.
