Right on the money
This is the reason I've been saying for a while now that despite the fact the foreign developers are cheaper, a lot of companies are going to screw this up, so they won't get the savings out of it they anticipated. We've seen how they can make less than informed decisions in IT in the U.S. What would make us think they suddenly got smart and figured IT out, and as a result found their "silver bullet" of low-cost IT outsourcing? It just doesn't follow. If they made inept IT decisions here, they're going to make even more inept decisions managing a group thousands of miles away.

I haven't been in corporate boardrooms, but I've seen the way management tends to do things nevertheless. It's unfortunate. It's just a continuation of the same old division of labor that's been going on for decades where management only knows how to sell a product and manage money (if they're any good), and the IT teams only know how to plan projects, and develop products (if they're any good). If you're lucky you have "bridge" staff who know how to communicate to both realms, acting effectively as translators. Either IT folks need some business training in salesmanship, management, and finance, or business schools need to start making "understanding technology" a standard part of the curriculum, or both need a broader curriculum. I sure wish management and engineering understood each other.
