Your last line says it all....

These days, software companies ignore the fact that we own the computers, not them. Yet, companies like Microsoft (and spyware companies, etc), pretend that the computer is not ours.

I can't change out MY hard drive unless I am willing to get Microsoft's permission to use MY computer, with MY valid license. If I want to use Windows, Microsoft effectively owns my right to use my computer. Pretty darn pathetic.

The same can be said about spyware of any kind, as well as spam, which basically uses MY equipment as a means to accomplish someone else's goals.

It has basically come to the point that computers are no longer the tool they once promised to be. There are far too many people being allowed to interfere with the use of MY computer.
