Toyota..
As a Toyota salesperson just told me when we were looking at new cars, Toyota's philosophy is to put a Toyota in every home. Almost all their prices are negotiable, except for the new convertible. They figure they make their profit in bulk sales.

The quality of their cars is a perception issue. They are no more reliable than any other maker these days. I bought my first Toyota back in '86. It was a Celica. I loved that car. Know what, after the first month the engine blew up in it. Not because of anything I did. Because it was a bad engine. That was not quality.

Before that I had a Ford Grenada. That car rocked. It took anything I could throw at it and kept on trucking. Never had any problems with it. That was quality. My neighbor had a Ford that gave him nothing but problems. It is all about who gets stuck with the lemon.

Heck, I just bought a new Honda Odyssey - which I highly reccomend for anyone looking to get a mini-van. Fresh off the lot, got it home and the windshield wipers did not work - bad motor. But do I still think it is a quality car - yep. Rides like a dream. I am already drooling over the mods I am going to make to the DVD and Navi system happy

I am not saying that quality necessarily costs more, but I am willing to pay more if I KNOW the product is good. Unfortunately, I am not the norm here. Most people just want low cost, no matter what.
