With a larger and still growing installed base,
Linux would be a better solution. The 'best'
solution would be if OSX, Linux, BSD, and Solaris
all gained enough market share to dilute the
effect that these nasties have. I wouldn't mind
seeing a revival of BeOS added to the mix. Of
course the biggest obstacle to the growth of
these operating systems, all demonstrably better
than Microsoft, is the lack of software. If
software vendors would port apps to the nix OS's,
I think you would see a massive shift in market
share. It wouldn't happen overnight, but it
WOULD happen. Be a lot better environment for
all of us.
