Differnce in crimes
Robbery is violent crime while hacking is more a fraud like crime. There's big differnce between the two.

Also how old was this guy at the time of the crime. Was he a minor and if he was then this just fits the punishment as a 14 year old can commit murder and be out in 4 years.

Plea bargins aren't bad if they aren't abused. Usually they are done when it's a gamble in court. You know could go either way. The defendant is offered a deal if they plead guilty to it. If fear of losing the gamble is stong enough a guilty person will take the plea. Problem is when an innocent person is rail roaded into taking a plea.
