Most sensible idea listed. Still problems though.
Assume the zombie identifying software works, down to knowing the specific pc.

The software automatically notifies the ISP, which automatically restricts SMTP access. Most people would not complain about being limited to 10 outgoing emails an hour while they fix their pc's.


Problems, though.

First, a lot of this malware includes its own little SMTP sender. There may be a problem catching the right sender on the right device.

Second, there'll be a lot of interaction necessary, partly because a lot of malware is difficult to eliminate. This is a real cost to the ISP.

Third, sometimes the affected account is on webmail, which can require a different response.


So, the idea is good and will become necessary if the problem gets too big. But as always solutions create new problems.
