You can't say "it doesn't matter if it was a Linux/Windows network if I go onto the network and see that machine, there is a chance I can get to it no matter what OS is running on it"
And then immediately follow it up with "but my bets are on Windows/Access."
The fact that you're choosing one, anyone, implies that you think it does matter.
Likewise your choice is based on nothing more than your apparent dislike of Microsoft. There's nothing that I read which would lead to a educated (as opposed to emotional) conclusion as to which OS was in use. Furthermore there's nothing to imply that it was an OS weakness that led to the compromise.
