VIRUSES FROM MICROSOFT???!!!
Recently I was fiddling around Fixing some Computers in my Shop, when I came upon a particular Problem where a Perfectly Known Good Computer Went "Drive Reckognition" Nuts for no Apparent Reason. After Consulting MANY On-line and Local PC Techs and Engineers from Intel and everyone else I could talk to about it, I found the Only Solution to the Problem was to Install XP on the PC that Originally had Win 98 on it. Once XP was installed, everything worked fine. At first I thought it was an Engineering Flaw in Compatiblity between Intel Boards and Win 98. But after Consulting with Intel Engineers I realize that THAT was not the Case. The first time I encounted this Problem I blew it off as just " one of those crazy Things" that sometimes happens in Computers. But a week Later I encountered the EXACT same Problem in a Completely Different Machine, with a Completely Different Motherboard and Chipset. NOW I was intrigued to say the Least.
After trying EVERYTHNG from Formatting the Hard Drive and Switching around Cables and Jumpers I came to the only Conculsion that makes sense. SOMEBODY created a Virus that embeds itself in Track 0 on the hard Drive and is specifically designed to Prevent Installation of Windows 98 on that Hard Drive. Most Viruses are detected only when they do Damage. This one lays Dormant until you try to Reinstall Windows 98. Then it Will Prevent you from doing it by Dropping off the CD Rom Drive. That's all it does. But if You try to install XP from the CD from the Boot, everything works fine. Could this be a Virus put out by Microsoft themselves to Force all Windows 98 Users to Purchase XP? Things that make ya go Hmmmm.
