Don't always believe what you read
You are right the encryption part was a very small part of the
trial. Actually it wasn't even the encryption capability, but the
ability for pgp to wipe files. The prosecution had to explain why
the pictures that were ALLEGEDLY taken were not there. So, now
anyone with a mac could have false allegations made against
them and the fact that OSX has secure wipe can be used against
them. As for your last comment.... When appealing any verdict,
all that can be appealed are technicalities. Again a very small
part of the appeal was based on allowing or not allowing the pgp
evidence or lack there of. It was mostly based on the fact that
the judge had to create his own testimony, evidence, and "facts"
there were never presented or didn't exist. Just think of all of
the people that are being let off of death row in Illinois because
they were now proven innocent by dna testing. Hate to spoil
your image of our leal system, but it doesn't work. Judges are
cowards. Sorry to make this a legal discussion not a technology
discussion.
