And therein lies the problem with Linux
>> In Linux (and all UNIX) things are different.
An attached file (even if it ends with .exe or
the likes) is not executable. Double-clicking
on a Linux (or Windows) executable file in one's
email on Linux does nothing. To execute an
attachment you would have to save the file to
your disk, and then enable the "executable"
permission on that file, and finally run it. <<

Good lord! How convoluted is that? This is why Linux won't take over on the desktop... simple tasks like executing an attachment are a baffling ordeal.

And to hell with those who don't know the process.. will any of the e-mail programs tell you that you must save it to execute? Will the command line (presumably) tell you that you need to set the executable permission in order to run it? I highly doubt it.

What is to be gained by this approach? Security? Hardly. Maybe from those who only know how to point and click on a computer (I am not one of these people, FYI, but I prefer to point and click wherever appropriate).

But once these point and clicksters manage to decipher the cryptic process.. then the viruses and trojans will start coming.
