Obnoxious as usual Bitty
Because people have an interest in rigging elections. And it is very scary when the president himself from the company Diebold said that he was going to rig his own system to ensure that Bush wins in '04 whether the people vote for him or not. The republicans have no interest in breaking into my bank account. But they have a lot of interest (I'm sure) in making sure we don't see democracy anymore. They have already rigged the first election. There has been a lot of talk about them having rigged the past few elections, where the republican candidate was expected to lose by a pretty wide margin and then surprisingly won.

"Reality break. There are secure systems."

So we all agree all the time that all software is buggy and has holes and now you're telling me that there are ultimately secure systems. Can you name one for me? Audit trails? You don't think they can be manipulated? What industry do you work in?
It's not the addressing of the problem, it's that a lot of people have a big interest in tampering with these systems. Not everyone wants to see them work properly, free of tampering..THAT is the real problem, and not the issues with software and security.
