Apples and apples
You miss the point completely.

You could call any analogy "apples and oranges". Comparing loss of internet connectivity (though it's really just email service) and wrongful prosecution is a matter of degrees and subject matter. It makes a point, which is what analogies are for. They're not *supposed* to be exactly the same thing. That's just a stupid criticism.

Let's try to take the point this time: I am not saying that no one should be blacklisted. I am saying that wrongly blacklisting 883,000 people is a failure of the system, just as wrongfully convicting people represents a failure of the system. That's an unassailable fact.

How can you argue with this? Would you consider it a success? So, the next time they go on a blacklisting binge, and another 883,000 people are blacklisted to get the next batch of 17,000 idiots, and you'd say "Everything is working great! Don't worry about those 883,000 people. It's just internet access, after all." ...?

I am simply saying that the goal should be not to blacklist anyone in error. How ON EARTH could anyone argue with this? It's insane.

As far as an "alternate proposal", why should I have one? Does not having one mean I can't call a spade a spade? Well, I guess everyone should just shut up whenever they see something wrong, if they don't have a better plan. Again, that's just a stupid criticism.

But by the way, my proposal would be to work hard on reducing the number of people blacklisted in error!
