Getting Better
I know that it is rather fashionable for folks
on these kinds of forums to gleefully bash
Microsoft re: real, perceived, and fabricated
vulnerabilities/price gouging/monopolistic
practices etc. A pleasant exercise to be sure.
The fact is that over 90% of the world are on
PCs running microsoft systems. This won't
change soon. WinXP Pro with SP2 rivals Apple
and Mac for stability and when properly secured,
firewall, AV, etc., is as secure. Apple
historically has been a boutique product and in
all likelihood will remain so. Linux, on the
other hand, has slowly been sneaking up on Apple
for market share on the desktop(Apple has NO
meaningful presence in the server market)and has
actually passed them. Desktop Linux has been
getting a lot of new support from companies like
IBM, Novell, Dell, etc. Connectiva Linux was
bought out by Mandrake Linux, and some very good
things should come from that merger. For the
foreseeable future, however, it will remain very
much a Microsoft world.
