Knowing something is better, not making a change
Critical mass doesn't have a whole lot to do with it. If my
memory is correct most of the servers on the web are Unix
based and running Apache but we don't hear about them getting
compromised as the percent of Windows servers do. Why? Unix
isn't totally secure though by design it's more secure than
Windows. IMHO Active X is a large part of the downfall of
Windows.

Yes Apple has a 2% - 3% market share and that equates to
millions of users that are loyal to that product. How much
market share does BMW, Ferrari, Volvo and the like have
compared to GM or Ford? True Apple would enjoy having more
of a market share.

As for Trojans,Virus Worms, there are 100,000+ effecting
Windows, zero for OS X. Certainly that won't remain that way but
it does say much about Unix style of OS and how the company
handles security within the OS. Could it be that even though
Windows has the higher market share that the OS is more
insecure, open to hacking, easier to exploit and the like? Now
look at the newest Sober.p worm (the p means it's the 16th
version of that worm) infecting Windows. Wouldn't that be a
security issue within Windows as well?

Another thought, yes those holes weren't there yesterday then
patched today (Duh! a no brainer of a question). The important
issue is they are patched and not one BSD Unix system and Mac
OS had been compromised; that does count for something.

With the nefarious hackers any OS is not safe for long but some
OS by design are more secure than others. In the future you'll
hear about OS having issues that's a fact of life.

Interestingly when we moved our network and computers to Mac
there was a collective sigh of relief when the next Windows
Trojan, Virus and Worm was announced. We don't need to worry.

A side note PeterWeter, when my neighbors networks go down
they come over to use our Macs. One had to redo his system
twice last month. Another lost a server because of a Trojan,
Virus or Worm. Yes they have security turned on yada-yada-
yada; but stuff happens.

Unix isn't for everyone but for the security conscience it's better
than Windows. People are aware of that but by nature are afraid
to make changes. Also they make excuses for staying with the
status quo even when they know there is something better. They
think that's the way it must be. How sad...

I could say more but I'll leave that to more eloquent folks.
