OSS patches on proprietary software isn't a good idea
The reason why open source patches work on open source software is because the patchers HAVE THE SOURCE. The reason why proprietary patches work on proprietary software is because the patchers HAVE THE SOURCE. The reason why open source patches are doomed to fail on proprietary software is because the patchers DO NOT HAVE THE SOURCE.

If MS insists on keeping the source closed, then they and they alone should be responsible for patching it, simply because those who have the source have the best chance of fixing it. And if your arguement against that is that they aren't up to the task, WELL THEN I GUESS IT'S TIME YOU CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE SOFTWARE.
