I must disagree

Squawky, I respect your opinions, but I have to disagree with this:

"As a consumer I have the reasonable expectation that the product I purchase is safe and secure for my use. The virii and hackers target a specific OS because the flaws are there and hope that the user does a perfectly natural act, opening and attachment. Blaming the consumer is too easy."

The vast majority of safety and security failures with ANY and EVERY product are attributable to the user. It's true that there's nothing one can do if, while cruising down the highway at 55mph your brakes suddenly fail and you go barreling into the back of a tractor-trailer. That is not the fault of the user (unless the car is 5+ years old and has never had the brakes checked). But if your engine seizes at 30,000 miles because you didn't read the manual and get your oil changed every 3000 miles, one can hardly blame the manufacturer for that. By using best practices and reading the manuals, most accidents/disasters/bad things can be avoided.

I think one of the HUGE problems in the world today is that people blame anyone and everyone else for their problems. No one wants to take responsibility anymore. As with most things in life, the truth lies somewhere in between. There is often preventable errors made all parties (the law calls it 'contributory negligence').

Absolving the user of all blame is the wrong way to go.
