Other OSes have to be patched too...
"If MS closed the holes before they release their OS into the wild then they (the end user) would not have to worry about the problems would they?"

So you think it's possible for a major piece of software to be released on the first try without any bugs or security holes? You know, there are vulnerabilities revealed on Linux all the time, and there are patches released for it all the time. There have been vulnerabilities and patches released for Mac OS as well. By your definition of "fix the holes before it's released", Linux must be a piece of crap too, or Mac OS for that matter.

It's striking to me how many people expect that software has reached a point of maturity where there are no bugs or security holes anymore, except for MS software. I'm bursting your bubble here, but it's not true. Perhaps if you're so worried about it you shouldn't be using computers right now. They're obviously too clunky and unreliable for you. Maybe they'll reach the point of "car manufacturing standards" reliability in another 10 or 20 years.

Computer science has not yet found a consistent way of proving that a piece of software works 100% as specified. Even OSS with its community processes of finding and fixing bugs and vulnerabilities is a brute force method of improving software that takes vigilance and time, and even then, there are ever more vulnerabilities and bugs that need to be fixed.
