I slam all OSes when the need strikes me. Look at the guys monilor and you will see why I chose to flame MS. Thye user is at fault is a bogus argument. BTW I have abused Windows 3.1 through XP, and currently enjoy Linux and OSX
As a consumer I have the reasonable expectation that the product I purchase is safe and secure for my use. The virii and hackers target a specific OS because the flaws are there and hope that the user does a perfectly natural act, opening and attachment. Blaming the consumer is too easy.
"First, there is no way to close every hole in an OS. The only way is if they kept testing it...forever. No one is good enough to find every hole."
I'll concede that point with this caveat about Microsoft. Remember Windows 98? Remember Windows SE? Remember the glaring holes that were not fixed from one release to another? Remeber when XP was prerelease and the complaints about holes that still existed and other security concerns?
"MS is very good about plugging there holes at a fast rate."
Take a peak at Secunia and other websites of that ilk and count how many flaws, holes, exploiyables remain open. That is unexcusable.
"The reason virus attacks hit windows the most is because most people use it."
That may very well be true, unproven but maybe true. Wouldn't you think then that Bill G and company would make sure that whatever they let of in the wild would be just a touch more secure? I love patching a brand spanking new OS weeks after it is released, don't you?
"If mac's or linux boxes where used more, they would be the ones having all the problems."
Again that is not a provable statement till their numbers go up.
"And as for your example, wake up...I have owned many cars and guess what, all of the have had problems. Do you know what the two biggest issues for car recalls are? Airbags and breaks! Now, those are very big safty issues. And even if you have been able to get cars that have not had those types of recalls, then your car has at least had something wrong that needed a recall."
I am wide awake Smiley. I have purchased and owned more cars and trucks than you ever will. Trust me you do not want to challenge me on that last statement. I stand by my statement I do not purchase vehicle(s) with glaring safety issue. Before I left the MS users camp I researched as a consumer my choices of OSes and was convinced that MacLinux was a good choice for security. You know what I have discovered, MacLinux react quicker to reported flaws than Microsoft. I am not ignorant, I realize it takes time to fix some things without breaking others. Again I would turn your attention to Secunia and other security websites.
I will be the first to say that MacLinux is not for every company but then again neither is MS. Microsoft has proven to me that they are willing to leave my business in the air while pushing their next OS. I find it interesting that there have been some exploits that did not affect Win98 while killing XP. Hmmm maybe there is something to retro downgrading.
"Ok enough ranting :)"
Rant on I am a big boy and have been cussed and abused by the best. I've been called some pretty foul names in 5 different languages so bring it on. - Posted by: Squawkbox Posted on: 05/03/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
