linux is perfect for the "idiot savants".
only the system stuff is locked. users can login and work, surf the web or what ever they do and not worry about easily catching a virus. users can't touch the system files without gaining access via a privileged user like root. and you can get pretty granular with the permissions you give a user or allow yourself to have.

also, not everyone knows how to lock down their windows. hell i don't know how to lock down windows without training or fawit (f*%#ing around with it). you don't have to be an expert in order to use a computer.

that's just my experience.
