All very well and fine EXCEPT...
ISP's must stop outgoing viruses as hard as they say thay are trying to help you from getting them. This would cut down the rampage more significantly.

...Except for the fact that these buggers have a BUILT IN SMTP server. Additionally, you have to be stupid enough to fall for the social engineering and open the attachment - thus infecting your system FIRST.

What's that mean? It means it completely BYPASSES the ISP's mail server ENTIRELY. It connects DIRECTLY to the intended victim's mail server.

If you shut down port 25, just how long do you think it would take the authors to figure out the new port and make the next version use THAT instead?

What's needed is 1.) an education program to teach people what these damn things do, how they work, etc... and 2.) the right to bi+ch slap anyone who's been thru #1 above and STILL fell for the social engineering and got infected. Repeat #2 until he/she/it GETS it.
